USGNN Reports – AIA 2023: Working with Certified Glaziers Can Be a Benefit for Architects
USGNN reports how District Council 16 of the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT) organized a tour for architects during the opening day of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Conference on Architecture 2023 in San Francisco. The tour took place at the DC 16 16 Finishing Trades Institute in San Leandro, California, and aimed to provide architects with hands-on experiences to enhance their understanding of glazing.
The architects participated in various activities at different stations, including curtainwall, storefront, sealant, and glass cutting. Instructors and apprentices guided them on proper glass installation techniques, glass cutting, joint sealing, and glass door installation. The goal of the tour was to emphasize the importance of certified glaziers in project specifications.
Jeff Dalaba, the program development director for the North American Contractor Certification and Architectural Glass and Metal Technician Certification Program, highlighted the significance of certifications in ensuring correct and high-quality installations. Tina Donnelly, a project executive envelope specialist at Turner Engineering Group, emphasized the benefits of certification, stating that it provides tradespeople with knowledge and empowers them to improve their craftsmanship, leading to better results in the field.
The AIA Conference on Architecture 2023 and Expo will continue until June 10, 2023. Visit the IUPAT at Booth #1963.
