A 98% Increase in Construction Accidents Since 2009 Brings Strict Safety Penalties in NYC

New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio recently announced a $120 million initiative "to quadruple penalties for construction-safety violations, conduct more than 1,500 targeted enforcement sweeps and hire 100 more city inspectors," DurabilityandDesign.com reports.

Safety statistics have taken a tragic turn in the wake of a 329 percent construction surge since 2009 in the city.  The NYC Department of Buildings reports that there has been a 98 percent increase in construction accidents in that same time span.
